Fixed Retainers

Boy smilingThe retainer you are now wearing is strong and durable, but proper care must be taken to avoid accidental breakage.

Please remember:

  • This fixed retainer is designed to hold the correction we've worked together to achieve. The wire is bonded to the tongue side of the teeth. It will feel strange at first, but you will quickly adapt to it.
  • The brushing and flossing techniques we demonstrated are important for proper dental health.
  • If your retainer should happen to break, make no attempt to adjust it yourself, but phone for an emergency appointment.
  • Although your fixed retainer is very strong, you must avoid biting into hard or chewy foods such as bagels or taffy with your front teeth.
  • There will be a fee for the repair or replacement of the retainer.
  • Please maintain your regular dental checkup with your family dentist.
